A Letter to My Sweet Babies

Dear Phoebe and Evan,

It's been almost 6 weeks since you were born. Mommy and Daddy were so happy the day you were born, even though we were scared too since you both were so early and so little.
We could not believe that we were finally parents. Our dreams had finally come true.
Unfortunately, you could not stay with us and it felt like our world had ended.

We had so many hopes and dreams for you, our sweet babies. I was sitting here tonight crying thinking of all my dreams for you. The first trip home to Toronto to see your extended family, the coordinating outfits I wanted to buy. A tutu for Phoebe and Thomas the Tank Engine trains for Evan. Cute Halloween costumes for you. Your first Christmas picture, with the two of you in diapers holding Christmas lights. Your first birthday with the cake that Mommy was going to make for you.

These and so many other firsts that we will never have as a family. The family pictures that we will not be able to take. There will be other pictures where we will feel your presence but you will not be in arms. And that our sweet babies, is the hardest reality to face. That no matter what the future brings us, good or bad that you will not be there to share it with us.

It is not fair that this happened, and there will never be a good enough reason why this happened to us. Every minute of every day we wish you were here with us so that we could be a family again. And we wonder why it can not be that way.

Sleep well our sweet babies. Mommy and Daddy love you more than you will ever know.

Love
Mommy
